David Duke, Treasurer Historic Port Royal, Inc

David Spencer Duke is the current Treasurer of Historic Port Royal. His professional background spans many years in the dynamic fields of sales and advertising, through which he has honed his skills in communication and outreach. His true passion lies in Virginia's rich history, particularly the colonial and Civil War eras of Port Royal. His commitment to preserving the town's unique heritage is a cornerstone of his involvement, and he is eager to share his enthusiasm with the public.

David and his wife of 24 years, Carolyn, have built a beautiful life in the Port Royal area since 2005. They are the proud parents of four wonderful children: three boys - Arthur (17), Chester (15), and Hamilton (14), and a daughter, Marie (11). They are active members of the historic St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Water Street, further cementing their ties to the community and its storied past.

Beyond his professional and volunteer endeavors, David is a man of many interests. He can often be found on the golf course, sailing the local waters, or embarking on a treasure hunt. A dedicated birdwatcher, he appreciates the natural beauty that surrounds Port Royal. David is also author of a recently published children’s book, Libby and the Secret of the Lost Shells (2023). However, his greatest joy comes from spending quality time with his family, for whom he loves to cook delicious meals, creating lasting memories around the dinner table.

The Duke family's roots run deep in American history. With family ties to Fredericksburg, Fairfax, and Spotsylvania, Virginia, David's connection to the region is personal. Carolyn's lineage is even more storied, as she is a descendant of the Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620, with her family having lived in Plymouth and Cape Cod for over 400 years. This profound connection to the nation's origins fuels their shared love for history and their unwavering dedication to preserving it for future generations. David's presence on the board of Historic Port Royal is not just a volunteer position; it is a continuation of a family legacy.
