Meet Trish Parker, Board Member Historic Port Royal, Inc

Trish Parker was born in Richmond, Virginia. She began her career in education the Caroline County Public Schools in 1973 as a seventh-grade teacher. In 1984, she was selected for a staff development position, mentoring other educators. In 1987, she met and married local photographer Joe Parker.  Two years later, they welcomed their son. In 1990, she left staff development in Caroline County and resumed teaching seventh grade in Fredericksburg. After forty rewarding years of teaching and mentoring, she retired from the profession.

While looking for ways to stay active in retirement, she happened to run into Carolyn Davis, then-president of Historic Port Royal, at the post office. Shortly thereafter, she became a docent at the Port Royal Museum. Her areas of interest at the museum include the Old Port Royal School, Virginia fossils, Native American artifacts, and the museum’s White House china collection

Trish is an esteemed Historic Port Royal board member and serves on the Museum Committee. She is also instrumental in developing educational programming in partnership with Caroline County Public Schools.

In addition to her volunteer work with Historic Port Royal, Trish is a regular meditator and a board member of the Insight Meditation Community of Fredericksburg. She is an avid reader and enjoys walking for exercise. Cooking, hiking, gardening, and babysitting her precious granddaughter (and soon-to-arrive grandson) are among her favorite activities. She also spends much of her time enjoying nature from her patio and screened porch and considers herself, now and always, a true sun-lover at heart.
