Kerri grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the youngest of three girls raised by an amazing single mother. Her love of history began early, thanks to her grandfather, who often took the family explore historic sites throughout the region. These experiences fostered a lasting fascination with the physical landscapes of the past and the people who shaped them. and. She developed a particular interest in the ways in which historic places connect present-day communities with earlier generations.
After graduating from The University of Mary Washington with a B.A. Historic Preservation and a concentration in archaeology, she joined a Cultural Resources Management firm in Northern Virginia, where a temporary position grew into a 15-year career. During that time, she worked on archaeological and cultural resources projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, studying sites and artifact collections ranging from 10,000 years old to the early twentieth century.
In 2015, Kerri returned home to Fredericksburg to serve as Cultural Resources Specialist on U.S. Army Garrison at Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County. Wanting to learn more about the area’s past, she began volunteering with Historic Port Royal. Through that work, she has developed a deep appreciation for the town’s history and enjoys helping share its stories with visitors and the community.
Kerri currently serves as Historic Port Royal’s President and sits on the Museum, Finance, Events, and Buildings committees. Most Saturdays you can find Kerri at the museum chatting with visitors or working on the next organization program. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, walking along the Rappahannock River, visiting historic sites and cemeteries, and researching the historic properties and families of Port Royal.
